There are commemorative days for all the sorts of people such as children, elders, mothers, fathers, women ….. Probably there are more commemorative days than the number of days in the year.
Guess what! Today (25th May) is the day for Geeks and fans of Star Wars and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Its called Geek Pride Day or Towel Day. May 25th is the release date first Star Wars movie. Apparently Geek Pride Day was initiated on 2006. While first towel day was held on 2001, two weeks after the death of Douglas Adams. The author of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
First Geek Pride Day celebration also released the Geek Manifesto which lists out the rights and responsibilities of geeks and here is the list.
Rights
The right to ….
… be even geekier.
… not leave your house.
… not like football or any other sport.
… associate with other nerds.
… have few friends (or none at all).
… have as many geeky friends as you want.
… be out of style.
… show off your geekiness.
… take over the world.
Responsibilities
Be a geek, no matter what.
Try to be nerdier than anyone else.
If there is a discussion about something geeky, you must give your opinion.
To save and protect all geeky material.
Do everything you can to show off geeky stuff as a “museum of geekiness.”
Don’t be a generalized geek. You must specialize in something.
Attend every nerdy movie on opening night and buy every geeky book before anyone else.
Wait in line on every opening night. If you can go in costume or at least with a related T-shirt, all the better.
Don’t waste your time on anything not related to geekdom.
Try to take over the world!
Geeks, Don’t Panic. You have a day.
